Los Angeles, December 3, 2020 – California Society for Democracy in Iran (CSDI) congratulates Representative

Gregory Meeks (D-NY) on being selected as the next Chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee (HCFA).
We applaud Congressman Meeks for working with his bipartisan colleagues in the committee to pass important humanitarian measures like H.Res.752, “Supporting the rights of the people of Iran to free expression, condemning the Iranian regime for its crackdown on legitimate protests, and for other purposes.” The resolution is a great example of what the incoming chairman has called attention onto: “pushing further on the fight for human rights across the world,” and the willful exercise of the full “weight of U.S. moral credibility.”

In our humble view, effective diplomacy on Iran should be contingent on improving human rights conditions within Iran, engaged with America’s well earned moral standing in mind, and consistent with its civil and human rights achievements. Our community also applauds bipartisan members of HCFA for consistently standing in support of a Free and Democratic Iran.

Living in a state housing the largest community of Iranian expatriates, our community looks forward to working with Mr. Meeks and the House Foreign Affairs Committee to promote human rights, responsible diplomacy, and to exercise America’s moral credibility specially as it pertains to U.S. policy towards Iran.
